Top Tips for Maintenance of External Aluminium Shutters.

General Cleaning and Maintenance to help keep your outside aluminium shutters in tip top functioning condition.

Wipe over the shutters using a non-abrasive cloth or sponge with warm soapy water. A garden hose can also be a useful addition along with the above application.

Concentrate on the areas where stainless steel hardware is attached to the shutter.

Remove any salt residue, tannin stains caused by trees and any other marks.

On completion of the cleaning process, spray a light film of silicone lubricant on any operational hardware such as the tracking system. Ensure these areas are fully dry prior to this application.

In non-coastal areas, cleaning aluminium shutters routinely every six months is recommended.

Coastal Cleaning Schedule
Please see the below cleaning and maintenance guide with recommendations for shutters installed in coastal premises or close to salt-water environments:

Aluminium Shutter Cleaning Schedule

A common misconception is that corrosion or rust doesn't affect stainless steel. As a rule, stainless steel hardware and fittings are used as they resist corrosion and rust, particularly in coastal areas but keeping up a maintenance schedule is essential for maximum resistance to deterioration just like any other outdoor aluminium and stainless-steel products.

With regular attention to maintenance, external aluminium shutters will continue to bring lasting benefits. If you have any questions regarding cleaning and maintenance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
