A Guide For Choosing DIY Aluminium Exterior Shutters For Your Space

The easiest, most popular of installations to regulate the light, breeze, privacy and weather is to fix the shutters in place with U channel. The U channel goes around the whole opening, top, bottom and sides and the shutters sit in it side by side.There are H shaped sections that sit in between each shutter panel vertically to hide the gap where they meet and tie everything together once installation is complete. When used as a single panel there is a different installation option to make it a bit easier. These styles of exterior shutter installations are ideal for fixing them on top of balustrading/patio wall or as a louvre shutter 'wall' from top to bottom or to fill a breezeway gap in a wall.

There are hinged options too. Exterior window shutters can be hinged to an existing reveal or into specially designed L or Z frame. The L frame when installed becomes the reveal for the shutters to be hinged to. It sits flush in the opening or if there's no room the shutters can be face mounted to become a 'box' for want of a better word, that the shutters are hinged into on the front of the opening. Z frame is a great option too as it also becomes the architrave around the opening. These aluminium shutter installation types are great options for outdoor kitchen doors, serveries and entry door ways to name a few.

Folding aluminium shutters are beaut if you have space to stack the shutter panels to the left or right when they're folded completely for access. They're unobtrusive and the stacks can fold inwards or outwards. They have tracks on the top and bottom with guides for travelling along the tracking system. They also have flush bolts to secure them in place when they across the opening. The top track has a matching powder coated fascia for cover. A little bit more expensive and a little more precision is required for this type of install. Excellent for opening up completely for the view, walkway openings that need to have access and be able to be secured to block access, serveries, balconies and similar.
